JAY — Police said they arrested a local man Thursday after they stopped him for driving without a license and discovered 68 oxycodone pills in his Jeep and 52 at his house.

Frank Williams, 47, of Jay was arrested on a felony charge of unlawful trafficking in schedule drugs and a misdemeanor charge of operating without a license by Jay police officer Russell Adams, who was assisted by Detective Richard Caton IV, according to a press release.

Police knew Williams did not have a license, police Chief Larry White Sr. said Friday.

A search of the his 2006 Jeep Cherokee revealed 68 oxycodone pills, according to the release.

Caton obtained a search warrant for Williams’ residence on Hermit Trail, off Riverview Road and Lavoie Street and seized 52 oxycodone pills and $2,000 cash there.

Jay police and Maine Drug Enforcement Agency conducted the investigation.

Williams was taken to Franklin County jail in Farmington and released on $250 cash bail. He is scheduled to appear Sept. 21 in Franklin County Superior Court in Farmington.

A conviction on the drug charge carries a sentence of up to 10 years in prison.
