I am writing in response to Stan Tetenman’s request to have someone answer his questions about gay marriage from a Christian perspective (Aug. 6).

1) How will allowing gays and lesbians to marry damage another couple’s marriage? In my opinion it will damage the fragile minds of our children and youth when it comes to determining right from wrong and therefore it will damage the institution of marriage for generations to come. Statistics prove that children raised in a family with one father and one mother turn out to be more successful and happy.

2) Where is the verse in the Bible that says marriage is only between a man and a woman? “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.” (Genesis 2:24 NIV) There are also numerous verses in the New Testament with wisdom pertaining to the husband and wife marriage relationship. God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve or Eve and Louise.

3) Is there a place in the Bible that says a woman shall not be with another woman? “God abandoned them to their shameful desires. Even the woman turned against the natural way to have sex and instead indulged in sex with each other.” (Romans 1:26 NLT)

4) Why can’t our society evolve to allow same-sex marriage? God created the human race and also the institution of marriage between one man and one woman. Anyone tampering with this will be held accountable on Judgment Day.
