NORWAY — Henry S. Johnson Jr. went peacefully to meet his Lord on Saturday, Aug. 18, surrounded by his loving family.
Henry was born Oct. 31, 1927, in Norway, to Henry S. Johnson Sr. and Estella Smith Johnson.
Henry was proud of his service in the National Guard and as a firefighter for the Norway Fire Department. He was a faithful member of the Norway Baptist Church for over 25 years. He spent most of his life working in local shoe shops. He also worked at C.B. Cummings and Robinson Manufacturing, from which he retired. After retirement, he worked part time at Country Way Restaurant.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Mildred Frost Johnson; and his six children, Gloria Dodge of Norway, Kathryn Kimball of Oxford, Cynthia and her husband, Robert Libby, of Oxford, Mildred and her husband, Roger Chamberlain, of Lewiston, Robert and his wife, Donna Johnson, of North Norway, and Virginia and her husband, Woody Wilson, of Oxford.
He is also survived by 21 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Lester, Bob and George Johnson; and two sisters, Jeannette Brieding and Carl Breton; as well as many friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Estelle; sisters, Constance and Pamela Johnson and Virginia Kimball; his granddaughter, Christy Bennet; and his in-laws, Richmond and Della Frost.
Henry was a special man who brightened the lives of everyone he met and will be deeply missed.
