Craig Saddlemire gets his description of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce exactly right in the article “Maine coalition takes aim at national Chamber” (Aug. 16).
For those who think government is the problem, think again. It is actually the present model of government, controlled by big business. Well-run government is the only thing that can protect the public from the excesses of big business.
That Charlie Summers would openly welcome the backing of that group, and the response to criticism of it by his campaign manager, Lance Dutson, illustrate the arrogance of the Republican Party, from top to bottom. Bullies every one, and that includes Gov. Paul LePage.
Those who work and are paid less than $200,000 a year and who are thinking of voting for any of those individuals, think again. Follow the money; see who is funding those candidates. What are they expecting for all that cash? Certainly not anything that will benefit most people.
The editorial cartoon for Aug. 16 seems to cast all media as attack dogs. I guess you figure the Sun Journal isn’t part of that crowd, but it seems to me that the real task of the media at election time is to provide real information to voters about what the candidates actually stand for (or in whose interest they are actually working).
Actual facts can never be an attack, they are only the truth. The Sun Journal would provide a service by concentrating on facts and leave the readers to draw their own conclusions.
