Coach: Mark Soehren (first year)
Last year’s record: 1-8
Returning players: Seniors — Ryan Godin (QB/WR/S), Jordan Croteau (FB/LB), Dexter Turner (FB/DE), Bill Leahy (G/DE).
Key losses: Josh McDonald (WR/DE), Caleb Archer (OL/DL), Kyle Rainey (OL/LB), Tyler Hamlin (OL/LB), Logan Sanborn (QB/WR/DB), Ryan Creney (S/RB), Brandon Campbell (T/DT).
Promising newcomers: Seniors — Tim Hutchinson (G), Ben Bowie (WR/DB); Juniors — Nick Bowie (QB/DB), Ethan Childs (RB/FS); Sophomore — Brady LaFrance (QB).
Outlook: Soehren is the Vikings’ third different coach in as many seasons. There’s continuity, as the former Poland boss was an assistant in 2011. He has installed his preferred flexbone option attack and has some flexible parts in place to run it. Godin may move from receiver to quarterback this season, with Nick Bowie and LaFrance also likely to see time under center. Godin and Croteau are tireless tacklers on defense. Oxford Hills has won only one game each of the past three seasons, all against Mt. Ararat. Defense kept the Vikings competitive in most contests a year ago and likely will lead this season’s quest for upward mobility in the PTC.
Coach’s comment: “The strength of the team again is the defense. Not just because we’re putting in a new offense, but because of their experience.” — Coach Mark Soehren
