Coach: T.J. Niles (second year)
Last year’s results: Boys — Eighth in Class A; Girls —12th in Class A.
Returning athletes: Boys: Seniors — Mohamed Barre, Mohamed Awil, Andrew Balsamo, Jordan Balsamo; Junior — Mohamed Mohamed; Girls: Juniors — Mana Abdi, Faith Shaw, Taylor True; Sophomore — Courtney Allen.
Key losses: Kevin Lavertu, Matt Chouinard, Nicole Court Menendez.
Promising newcomers: Boys: Junior — Abdifatah Mohamed; Sophomore —Isaiah Harris; Girls: Sophomores — Norah Schlax; Nicole Footer; Freshman — Danielle Bellegarde.
Outlook: Lewiston’s boys have more than just qualifying for states for the eighth year in a row on their to do list. KVAC and regional titles are reasonable goals, and challenging for a state title isn’t out of the question. Barre should be one of the top runners in the state. Awil, Mohamed Mohamed and the Balsamo brothers could help vault the Blue Devils into contention for their first state title since 2007. With the junior trio of Shaw, Abdi and True forming a solid top three, the girls could suprise, especially if they add some depth.
Coach’s comment: “I think the boys are going to be very good this year. I think they have a shot at winning most if not all of their meets.” — Coach T.J. Niles
