AUBURN — Marston’s Corner Baptist Church, an independent Baptist church located at 752 Beech Hill Road, will celebrate its 200th anniversary at 10 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 9.
Pastor Mark Lunn of the Hodgdon United Baptist Church in Hodgdon will be the guest speaker and his wife, Debbie, guest soloist. A slideshow presentation, performances by the adult and children’s choirs and recognition of former pastors and other guests will take place during the service.
Two hundred balloons will be released and the original church bell will be rung to conclude the morning service. Festivities following the service include a barbecue, games for all ages, the MCBC Gospel Vocal Singers and horse drawn wagon rides. The public is invited and all events are free of charge.
The church has had several names over the last 200 years until 1954 when the church incorporated and changed its name to Marston’s Corner Baptist Church. During the 1980s a fellowship hall, kitchen and new pastor’s office were added. In the early 1990s the sanctuary was remodeled, exposing its beautiful beams and adding a stained glass window, the border of which was made from the colored glass of its original windows. In May 2008 Marston’s Corner Baptist Church was providentially merged with Lighthouse Baptist Church of Lewiston.
