LEWISTON — The Johns Manville Lewiston roofing systems facility has been awarded the Occupational Safety and Health Act Voluntary Protection Program Star.
OSHA’s formal presentation and ceremony is scheduled for Oct. 4 at the Lewiston facility. Out of 7 million work facilities in the U.S., this recognition has been awarded to only 2,374 sites since the program’s inception 30 years ago. The Lewiston facility is only the sixth fabricated metal production plant in the U.S. to achieve the honor.
The ceremony will be attended by Johns Manville employees, including Tim Olehowski, plant manager; Jeff Gilbert, health, safety and environmental specialist; their guests; state and local dignitaries; and leaders from the company’s headquarters in Denver, Colo. Bill Coffin from the Department of Labor, OSHA, will present the VPP Star flag and plaque to the Lewiston team.
OSHA awarded the Lewiston facility’s VPP Star status after conducting a comprehensive assessment of its safety processes and procedures, and an intensive on-site audit by a four-member inspection team. “Star” level is the highest level of achievement under the VPP program.
