Directors of the L&A Railroad Co. have authorized negotiations with one developer for use of the deteriorated Grand Trunk Railroad Depot, but refused to make public the details of any of the five proposals they received. “I can’t reveal anything. This is a private, for-profit corporation, and we don’t have to make anything public,” said Lewiston City Clerk Gerald P. Berube, who also serves as clerk of the railroad company. “I don’t want to jeopardize any negotiations at this point,” he said. The depot was the first sight thousands of Canadian immigrants had when they arrived in Lewiston during the late 19th century. Train service was discontinued to the site in the 1950s.
