FARMINGTON — After buying a new Ford Mustang, Jim Page of Wilton thought other sports car owners might enjoy a fall ride together.
He organized a Mustang Rally for Sunday, Sept. 16, believing other owners of Mustangs, muscle cars and antique cars will join him for a ride from Farmington to Augusta across to Livermore Falls and back to Farmington.
Starting at 9 a.m. drivers are invited to gather at the Farmington Ford dealership on the Wilton Road. There is no cost but a sign-up table enters drivers into a raffle, he said. Each driver also gets a T-shirt.
Stew White, owner of Farmington Ford, the rally sponsor, suggested expanding the rally to other cars, Page said.
From the Ford dealer lot, the rally will progress to New Sharon at 11 a.m. and travel Route 27 to Augusta. The group will break for an hour so drivers and their families can have lunch on their own.
The caravan will regroup at the Augusta Civic Center, drive across to Winthrop, then up Route 133 for another short break at Pike’s Corner Oasis. It will follow Route 133 north to Farmington. He expects the ride to be about four hours.
He said he has already received much interest. If this year goes well, he would like to consider making it an annual rally, obtain nonprofit status and eventually make contributions to the cancer society.
When his brother owned a 1965 Mustang, Page liked it and developed an interest in the car. The new Mustang he purchased has all the latest options such as hands-free radio and phone, and gets 30 miles to the gallon, he said.
“When I bought mine, I got inspired,” he said, to organize a rally “just because.”
