PARIS — In one of this season’s most pleasant surprises, Oxford Hills earned its first victory of the season with a fine 3-0 effort against Cony in a KVAC field hockey tilt.
Abby Angevine led the revved-up Vikings (1-5-1) with two goals, while Amanda Hanning also tallied.
The veteran goalkeeping combination of Abby Egan and Shannon Fillebrown made five saves to notch the shutout. Kevi Rodnqe turned aside eight shots in the cage for Cony (2-5-1).
Leavitt 2, Erskine 0
SOUTH CHINA — The Leavitt field hockey squad managed to find the net once in each half to come away with a 2-0 win over Erskine in more KVAC field hockey action Thursday.
Sadie Royer gave the Hornets (6-1) a 1-0 advantage when she tallied with just 51 seconds left in the first frame. Brianna DeGone added an insurance goal off an assist from Meagan Dow just 10 minutes into the second half.
Sierra Santamango needed only three saves to preserve the shutout, while Lexi Soucy deflected 16 shots between the posts for Erskine (1-7).
Hampden 1, Edward Little 0 (OT)
HAMPDEN — Lauren Fairman crossed the ball to Kelly Martin on a rush late in the first overtime and Martin buried her chance, lifting Hampden Academy to a 1-0 victory over Edward Little in KVAC field hockey action Thursday.
The Broncos (2-5) outshot the Red Eddies (2-6) 13-5, with six of those shots coming in the overtime session. Amanda Williams played a solid game for EL, stopping 12 of the 13 shots she saw.
Katie Seekins saved all five Eddies’ offerings to pitch the shutout for Hampden.
Lawrence 1, Lewiston 0 (2OT)
LEWISTON — After two scoreless halves and an overtime, Alex Chamberlin settled the matter, blasting a shot from the right side of the circle to score the winning goal, giving Lawrence a 1-0 victory over Lewiston in a field hockey game Thursday.
Kaprice Dahms earned the assist on Chamberlin’s goal as Lawrence (6-2-1) outshot Lewiston, 8-6
Lewiston goalie Ravon Palmer did everything in her power to keep the Blue Devils (6-2) in the game, making eight saves.
Girls’ soccer
Gray-NG 1, Waynflete 1
PORTLAND — Despite slugging it out for two overtimes, Gray-New Gloucester and Waynflete had to settle for 1-1 tie in a girls’ soccer game Thursday.
The Patriots (2-3-1) got on the board first when Taylor Darnell’s direct kick landed in the Waynflete net in the middle of the second half.
Waynflete responded when Walker Foehl’s shot bounced off a Patriot defender and into the net.
Gray-New Gloucester goalie Sam Wilkins made 14 saves.
Gardiner 1, Leavitt 0
TURNER — Brittany Carver took the ball off the right side and slipped it into the net with 23:40 left in the second half. Gardiner made its one-goal lead stand up as the Tigers (6-1) slipped away with a 1-0 victory over Leavitt (2-6) in a girls’ soccer game Thursday. Leavitt dominated the game in shots, 17-5, and in corners, 8-2, but could not slip the ball past Gardiner goalie Ally Day, who made 16 saves. Leavitt goalie Angela Daigle made four saves.
Boys’ soccer
Leavitt 3, Gardiner 1
GARDINER — Christian Fullerton led a trio of players to tally goals Thursday as Leavitt raced away to a 3-1 victory over Gardiner in boys’ soccer action.
Tyler Roux and Madison Noel also tallied for the mighty Hornets (2-6) to complete the scoring. Leavitt jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first frame and was never challenged.
Keegan Smith tallied the lone goal for Gardiner (1-6) with an assist from Alex Lapointe. Ben Fullerton made nine saves for Leavitt, while Ian Lane deflected seven shots between the posts for Gardiner.
Carrabec 1, Monmouth 1
MONMOUTH — The Carrabec and Monmouth boys’ soccer squads battled up and down the field Thursday and came away with a 1-1 deadlock.
Seth Burns scored the Cobras’ lone goal at the 29 minute mark of the second frame. Kyle Fletcher tallied for the Mustangs (1-4-3) just 12 minutes later to tie the contest.
Trent Richardson made 15 saves for Carrabec (2-4), while Kasey Smith turned aside 10 shots for Monmouth.
