FARMINGTON — Bail for a couple accused of robbing the pharmacy at Walmart on Friday night remains at $10,000 cash or $100,000 worth of property, a judge in Franklin County Superior Court ruled Monday.

Ashley M. Lake, 28, of Industry and Timothy S. Campbell, 33, of Carmel and most recently of Chesterville, were arraigned on felony charges of robbery and possession of an illegal drug.

Farmington police originally said Campbell was 50 years old and lived in Farmington. Detective Marc Bowering corrected his age and address  Monday.

Standing before Judge Nancy Carlson, Lake and Campbell each asked for reduced bail of $5,000, or about $50,000 worth of property.

Although Lake’s record revealed only a driving under the influence charge in 2007, she has been grappling with a serious substance abuse issue, Assistant District Attorney Andrew Robinson told the judge.

“This is a serious charge,” he said.

The two were arrested Friday night after Lake handed a pharmacist a note demanding oxycodone and said she had a gun, police said. After receiving some drug, she left the store and met a man in the parking lot. They fled on foot, police said. A tracking dog led police next door at the Colonial Valley Motel where they were staying.

Although there is no evidence that Lake had a gun or showed one, she approached the pharmacist and indicated she did, Robinson said. Police found her in possession of oxycodone and found some in the room. Most of the drug taken was recovered by police.

In addition to the monetary amount of bail, the state also asked for conditions that she not possess alcohol, illegal drugs or weapons, submit to searches, not go to Walmart and have no contact with Campbell.

Defense attorney Christopher Berryment asked that she be allowed to contact Campbell because they have two children together.

Lake has four children in the area whom she visits regularly, he said. He asked for bail to be reduced to $5,000 cash or $50,000 worth of property.

Lake has also signed up for family treatment drug counseling through Lewiston District Court, he said.

Although Lake and Campbell may seek a Maine Pretrial contract, although the DA has not yet agreed, Robinson thought it should only be a bed-to-bed transfer for the couple to receive drug counseling services not a release.

The same conditions and monetary amount was sought by the state for Campbell, who also faces a charge of violation of conditional release. He is currently on bail for a recent theft of drugs, a felony charge, Robinson said.

Campbell acted as an accomplice. He helped plan and advised Lake how to rob the store. He acted as a lookout, Robinson said.

Berryment said Campbell didn’t spend much time in the store.

Campbell has been successful in fulfilling other probation conditions, he said.

The judge agreed to the initial bail amounts and the conditions requested by the state. She also viewed a potential Maine pretrial contract to mean a transfer for drug treatment. Once the couple are granted court representation, their attorneys can seek a change in bail, she said.
