WILTON —The Alzheimer’s Association is inviting Franklin County residents to  participate in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s at 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at Kineowatha Park, High Street.

Participants will walk two miles while they learn about Alzheimer’s disease and how to get involved, from advocacy opportunities, the latest in Alzheimer’s research and clinical trial enrollment to support programs and services. Walkers will also join in a ceremony to honor those affected by Alzheimer’s disease.

Alzheimer’s disease is now the nation’s sixth-leading cause of death. As baby boomers age, the number of individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease will escalate, increasing beyond today’s estimated 5.4 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s.

“There has never been a greater need for the citizens of Franklin County to join in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease by participating in Walk to End Alzheimer’s,” said Laurie Trenholm, executive director, Alzheimer’s Association, Maine Chapter.

“Funds raised will provide care and support services to the 37,000 residents of Maine living with Alzheimer’s, while also contributing to advancing critically-needed research,” said Trenholm.

Last year, Maine walks raised more than $420,000. Donations are being collected through the end of the year. For more information, visit www.alz.org/walk.
