VASSALBORO — The Edward Little and Oxford Hills golf teams each qualified for Saturday’s state tournament with solid efforts at the Natanis Golf Club on tuesday.
Cooper Easter shot a 75 for the Red Eddies, just one shot behind top qualifier Brad Smith of Brunswick. Brian Crane shot an 81 overall to help Edward Little make the cut.
Both teams scored 328 for 18 holes of play and will now gear up for the big show this weekend.
Boys’ Soccer
Lisbon 1, Oak Hill 0
LISBON — Kyle Whitman got hold of the ball after a flip-in throw from Tyler Bard with just three minutes left in the second overtime to give Lisbon a 1-0 win over Oak Hill in MVC boys’ soccer action Tuesday.
Nate Bergeron made seven saves for the Greyhounds (4-6-1).
Brunswick 5,
Oxford Hills 0
PARIS — Konnor Scarponi netted four goals Tuesday as Brunswick outgunned Oxford Hills 5-0 in a KVAC boys’ soccer tilt Tuesday.
Ryan Black gave the Dragons (8-1-2) a 1-0 advantage in the opening minutes before Scarponi hit full throttle. Brunswick carried a 3-0 lead into the second frame and was never challenged.
Greg Walton needed only three saves to notch the shutout, while Jake Beauchesne turned aside nine shots between the posts for Oxford Hills.
Monmouth 3, Wiscasset 0
WISCASSET — Kyle Fletcher registered a hat trick Tuesday as Monmouth rolled to a 3-0 victory over Wiscasset in more MVC boys’ socer action.
Joe Menice, Casey Clement and Russell Neal also contributed for the Mustangs (3-5-3) with assists. Neal and Drew McPheron both played extremely well at mid-field and were key in the win.
Kasey Smith made 12 saves for Monmouth, while Nate Mills deflected 14 shots for the Wolverines (6-5).
EL 2, Hampden 1
HAMPDEN — Corey Morin punched in the eventual game-winner in the second half as Edward Little (6-4) stunned Hampden Academy (5-1-4) with a 2-1 victory in a boys’ soccer game Tuesday.
In the first half, Maslah Hassan beat a pair of defenders along the endline and fed the ball to Zach Tannebaum who scored from 12 yards out to give EL a 1-0 lead. Hassan had an opportunity to score when he won a penalty kick, but his shot went wide of the post.
The Broncos made it close when Tristan Gardner scored at 25:15 in the game, but EL goalie Llewellyn Jensen didn’t allow another goal and made eight saves for the afternoon.
Edward Little 4, Brewer 1
AUBURN — Maslah Hassan netted all four goals as Edward Little overpowered Brewer 4-1 on Monday. Momhamed Ali and Zach Tannenbaum also contributed for the Red Eddies with assists, while Llewellyn Jensen made five saves.
Valley 5, Buckfield 1
BINGHAM — Tarrington Miller turned in a hat trick and Valley erupted with three goals in the second half and coasted to a 5-1 victory over Buckfield in a boys’ soccer game Tuesday.
The Cavaliers (6-5) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half before letting the Bucks (4-6-1) have it in the second half. Stone Ellis and Gabe Pullin also scored for Valley.
Jacob Bailey spoiled Valley’s would-be shutout when he scored an unassisted goal in the second half.
Winslow 2, Leavitt 1
TURNER — Winslow (8-1-2) finally found a crack in Leavitt’s stubborn defense in the second half and tiptoed away with a 2-1 victory in a boys’ soccer game Tuesday.
Gabe Smith scored both goals, with his game-winner coming off a penalty kick with four minutes left in the game.
Anthony Tedesco scored an unassited goal for the Hornets (2-9).
Mt. Abram 2,
Spruce Mountain 2
JAY — Max Moreau converted a fine pass from John Blaise three-and-a-half minutes into the second frame to give Spruce Mountain a 2-2 tie against Mt. Abram in a late-season MVC boys’ soccer matchup Tuesday.
Greg Whitney also tallied for the Phoenix (6-4-1) in the first half. Jay Chouinard and Amos Withee each scored for the Roadrunners (6-4-1) to complete the scoring.
Dustin Jones made 10 saves for Spruce Mountain.
Tristen Dyer deflected 10 shots between the posts for Mt. Abram.
Mt. Ararat 2,
Lewiston 1
TOPSHAM — Jason Tome got hold of a fine pass from Will Hirnak and fired it into the net with 27:50 left in regulation to give Mt. Ararat a 2-1 win over Lewiston in another KVAC boys’ tilt Tuesday.
Alex LaPierre gave the Eagles a 1-0 advantage in the first frame with an unassisted goal.
Yusuf Yama tallied the Blue Devils’ (8-1-1) lone goal with an assist from Abdibarri Hersi.
Gabe Pelletier made five saves for Mt. Ararat, while Eric Soucy turned aside five shots in the cage for Lewiston.
Poland 6,
Lake Region 1
NAPLES — Alex Corcoran netted a pair of goals, added two assists and set a pace Lake Region just couldn’t handle as Poland raced away to a 6-1 victory in more local boys’ soccer action Tuesday.
Nate Morin also scored two goals for the Knights (2-6-2), while Patrick Jipson and Nigel Williams also tallied to complete the scoring.
Mike Mageles scored the Lakers’ (1-8) lone goal with 22:24 left in the second frame. Zack Lowe made four saves for Poland, while Pat Irish deflected 16 shots for Lake Region.
