STRONG — Vernon “Buddy” Burns, 78, of Strong, passed away in the comfort of his home on Wednesday, Oct. 3, with his wife by his side.
He was born in New Portland, May 20, 1934, the son of Henry and Verda (Spencer) Burns. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956.
Buddy worked in the woods as a truck driver, at the Strickland Mill in New Portland and Flo Chemical in Ashburnham, Mass., until he retired in 1991. Buddy and his wife moved to Strong in 1996. He served as the fire chief in New Portland and was president of St. Joseph’s Church in Fitchburg, Mass.
Buddy leaves behind his wife of 55 years, Frances of Strong; he was a wonderful and loving father to his children, Linda and Bob Enwright and Rick and Tammy Burns, all of New Hampshire and Bruce, Chris and Gloria Burns of Massachusetts; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; his brother-in-law, Herbert and his wife, Marge Cook, of Strong; several nieces and nephews; and many wonderful friends.
He was predeceased by his parents; a daughter, Margaret Welvert; and sisters, JoAnn Archer and Barbara Cook.
