BUCKFIELD — Garrett Hamann netted a pair of goals to lead Buckfield to a 7-0 rout over Rangeley in a late-season EWC boy’s soccer matchup Wednesday.
Jon Randolph, Bryan Chabe, Brian Casey, Jesse Warren and Jacob Bailey also tallied for the Bucks (5-7-1) to complete the scoring. Calvin Downey made six saves to preserve the shutout. Buckfield jumped out to a 2-0 advantage in the first frame and was never challenged.
Lewiston, 3, Mt. Blue 1
FARMINGTON — Abdullahi Shaleh scored two goals as Lewiston pulled away from a 1-1 halftime tie for a 3-1 victory over Mt. Blue in KVAC soccer Wednesday.
Abdi Shariff-Hassan scored what proved to be the game-winning goal for Lewiston in the second half. Gage Kennedy netted the lone Mt. Blue goal on a penalty kick. Eric Soucy made five saves in net for the Blue Devils (9-1-2) while Zack Jackson stopped 11 shots for the Cougars (3-9).
Nokomis 3, Leavitt 2
TURNER — Christian Brown scored twice as Nokomis hung on to defeat Leavitt, 3-2, in KVAC boys’ soccer action Wednesday.
Adam Kreider scored the other goal for Nokomis (2-11). Brandon Morissette and Klayton Kesaris each had a goal and an assist for Leavitt (2-12). Nate Buck stopped 10 shots in net for the Warriors, including a couple of key saves after Leavitt cut Nokomis’ lead to a goal with just under 10 minutes left on Kesaris’ goal. Ben Fullerton made nine saves for the Hornets.
Girls’ soccer
BUCKFIELD – Dakota Warren netted a pair of second-half goals Wednesday to lift Buckfield to a 4-1 victory over Rangeley in girls’ soccer action.
Brie Damon and Nadia Wesley also tallied for the Bucks (6-6) to complete the scoring. Abby Abbott tallied the lone goal for Rangeley (7-4) in the first frame.
Arrabibine Dunn made five saves for Buckfield, while Meg Target deflected 14 shots between the posts for Rangeley.
OLD ORCHARD BEACH — After reaching a 3-3 deadlock at the halftime break, the Poland field hockey squad pulled out all the stops and came away with a 5-3 win over Old Orchard Beach in a soggy WMC matchup Wednesday.
Paige Brousseau and Carly King led the Knights to victory and their first playoff spot in over seven years with two goals apiece. Mimi Carmichael also tallied to complete the scoring.
Jamie Crowley led the Seagulls with two goals, while Mackenzie Rague also tallied. Melora Lavoie made 11 saves for Poland, while Colleen Dyer deflected 11 shots in the cage for Old Orchard Beach.
