AUGUSTA — Matthew Kaubris, CEO and president of Oxford Federal Credit Union, has been appointed by Gov. Paul LePage to the Kim Wallace Adaptive Equipment Loan Program Fund Board. On Oct. 12, Kaubris was sworn in by Dedimus Justice, District 93 Rep. Sheryl Briggs of Mexico.

The loan program, also known as the mPower loan fund, was created when Kim Wallace became a quadriplegic as a result of a spinal cord injury in 1979. This event launched his career as an advocate for disability rights. Kim was a pioneer and the driving force to start the loan program, after he saw the difficulties people faced in getting equipment and home modifications.

The mPower loan fund has been supported by two bond issues passed by Maine voters. This makes mPower the only citizen-funded type loan program in the country. mPower loans are made at low interest rates with longer repayment schedules, reducing monthly payments.
