Congratulations to the Lewiston/Auburn community for another successful Dempsey Challenge. My friends and I have participated three times now, and the community support has only gotten stronger each year.

The Friday night art walk was a great addition, providing a nice opportunity to experience the downtown area and patronize local businesses.

I’m always struck by the genuine friendliness and welcoming attitude of L-A residents. In three years, I’ve encountered only one rude person, and I’m betting she’s a transplant.

If the locals grumble privately about traffic tie-ups or crowded restaurants, they never let those of us who are causing the inconveniences see their frustration. Instead, people go out of their way to be helpful and accommodating, and local people should know that it is very much appreciated.

They should also be very proud of the beautiful new Dempsey Center, which we had an opportunity to tour. It’s a real gem and the community is certainly lucky to have it.

Thanks for another wonderful experience in beautiful Maine. I’m already looking forward to 2013.
