Boys’ Soccer preliminary game

No. 6 Gray-NG 5, No. 11 Madison/Carrabec 0

GRAY — After coming close several times in the first half with only one goal to show for its efforts, Gray-New Gloucester wasn’t going to let that happen again in the second.

Jake Street scored back-to-back goals in the 27th and 31st minutes and three other teammates added a goal each to lead the Patriots to a 5-0 victory over Madison/Carrabec on Saturday.

“We were just having a really hard time hitting the net,” Gray-NG coach Andy Higgings said. “We hit the post a couple of times, and went wide a couple others.”

Will Bartlett broke the ice for the home team early in the first half with an unassisted tally. Street opened the floodgates with 13:22 to play in regulation on a feed from Bartlett, and added to the lead in the 31st minute with help from Tyler St. Pierre.

Josh Kane and Casey Myhaver finished the scoring for the Patriots (7-6-2), both scoring in the following five minutes.

“We knew after the second one went in, the floodgates were going to open,” Higgins said. “We’d been knocking on the door and we just weren’t able to get through. But that opened it right up.”

Gray-New Gloucester advances to the quarterfinal round, where it will travel to Falmouth to take on the No. 3 Yachtsmen.
