NORWAY — Alpha & Omega Ministries Inc. and Alpha & Omega Thrift Shop at 39 Brown St. are currently collecting items to help people in the New York and New Jersey area who were devastated by Hurricane Sandy.
Ryder Truck Co. from Portland has offered up to four pallets of space for goods on one of their trucks that travels in that area on a regular basis. Items need to be loaded ready to leave on Thursday, Nov. 15. The truck is scheduled to leave either Friday or Saturday.
Contact was made with Robert Haffner from the Office of Emergency Management in New Jersey to ensure items can be used. The places listed below are not asking for clothes, but blankets and sleeping bags are needed. There is also need for plastic tubs to pack items in.
Volunteers are needed to help stack items on pallets and shrink wrap them so they can be put on the truck. For information contact Bert Rugg at (207) 515-3000 or Ardith Dechello at (207) 744-0300.
The following items are needed at the Hopatcong shelter and County shelter: Dry food goods, paper plates, plastic eatery ware, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, toiletries, paper towels, toilet paper, surge protector strips, sleeping bags and batteries of all types.
Needed at County vo-tech are sleeping bags, cots, crank lights, flashlights, surge protector strips, file boxes and coffee pots.
