NEW GLOUCESTER — Cinder Conk, which plays an array of original and Balkan music, will perform on Saturday, Dec. 1, at New Gloucester Village Coffee House.
The duo, aka Matthew Schreiber and Xar Adelberg, weaves frenzied accordion riffs with double bass counterpoint to create the vibrant sounds of Roma (gypsy) folk dance, known for its haunting allure.
Violinists Ben Russell and Sarah Mueller sometimes join the duo for a more layered sound.
Cinder Conk has shared the stage with Slavic Soul Party, Petar Ralchev’s Live From Bulgaria Ensemble, Beat Circus, Fishtank Ensemble and Toughcats. It’s debut CD, “Kukeri,” was released in spring 2011. The duo also has three tunes featured on a quad-split record, released in June of the same year.
The performance will be at 7:30 p.m. at the coffee house in New Gloucester Congregation Church, 19 Gloucester Hill Road. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for seniors.
