100 years ago, 1912
Samuel Stewart, the well-known Lewiston confectioner whose store at 32 Lisbon Street is soon to be torn down to make way for the new brick block if the Woolworth Co. is to engage in the wholesale manufacture of sweetmeats. He plans to build a candy factory near his home on the Sabattus Road, which will give employment to about 25 hands at the start. The buildings on Lisbon Street now occupied by Stewart the Dairy Lunch and Saunders must be vacated no later than Jan. 1. When Mr. Stewart vacates his present store, he will conclude his retail business and devote entire time to the wholesale business. He has a large room fitted up for the manufacture of candy during the winter. He will make four specialties at present, one of which will be his famous cocoanut cubes.

50 years ago, 1962
The lure of a thin coating of ice is drawing children to Pettengill Park, Auburn, and police were called to the park several times over the weekend to keep the children off the dangerously thin ice. The skating rink area on the brook in Pettengill Park is skimmed over, but a lot more cold weather will be necessary before the ice covering is strong and deep enough to support skaters. The center of the brook in the skating area is quite deep.

25 years ago, 1987
The third annual combined elementary-junior high school Christmas Concert will be presented by Lewiston students on Dec. 10 in the Lewiston Junior High School auditorium. The Elementary Advanced Band with open the concert. The 45 students in this band were chosen from over 150 fifth- and sixth-grade band students currently enrolled in the Lewiston Elementary Band Program directed by Laura L. Jessen.
