RUMFORD — The Pennacook Art Center will host a new show at the River Valley Technological Center on Friday, Dec. 7, showcasing new works from local artists.

The show will be from 5 to 7 p.m. The artwork will remain on display for two months after the show ends.

According to Chris Wing, who is helping put the show together, only artists who are members of the Pennacook Art Center will have their work displayed.

“It’s up to the individual artists what piece of work they put up, and how long they spend working on it,” she said.

The artists will be at the show to answer questions. Wing said that while there will be paintings, drawings and photographs on display, the art center hasn’t yet found a way to display sculptures.

Wing said in addition to “the usual wine and cheese type offerings,” the event will offer a door prize.

“Each painting will also have the phone number of the artist on it, in case somebody wants to buy the art,” she said.

Wing said the Pennacook Art Center has been hosting these opening nights since “a little after the art center closed downtown and moved to the Tech Center.”

According to its website, The Pennacook Art Center is “a grassroots nonprofit cooperative group of artists from western Maine who “encourage the arts and artists in our local communities.”

The center is working with the River Valley Growth Council to host the show.
