OXFORD — The Oxford Hills School District Board of Directors is expected to decide whether to extend the superintendent’s contract, which expires in 2015, when it meets Jan. 7.
The meeting, originally set for Dec. 17, was rescheduled to Jan. 7 because of the weather.
Superintendent Rick Colpitts, who currently earns $107,161, said the directors will vote whether or not to extend the contract but a decision on compensation is determined later in the spring or summer.
“My contract was extended last year by an additional year. My current contract expires June 30, 2015,” Colpitts said.
The board will first enter executive session to conduct an evaluation of the superintendent and then in open session to act on the contract.
Board Chairman Ron Kugell has previously explained that directors and the superintendent each participate in the evaluation process, which is done in both ranking and essay form. The directors evaluate the superintendent on issues such as goals and how well they are met.
Superintendents are elected for specific terms not exceeding five years. The term of office for any superintendent ends on June 30, with the year to be specified by board vote.
Colpitts was appointed superintendent in 2010, succeeding Mark Eastman who retired after holding the post for 15 years. In May of that year, the directors gave Colpitts a three-year contract with an annual salary of $103,000.
The contract was extended last December to 2015, and the directors have increased his salary over the past few years to the present $107,161.
Colpitts, of Peru, came to the Oxford Hills School District in 2009 under a pilot program that employed him as a half-time assistant superintendent. He was serving as part-time superintendent of SAD 39 in Buckfield at the time.
