SCARBOROUGH — Muriel C. Blanchard, 86, widow of the late Newman T. Blanchard, passed away Dec. 17, at her home in Scarborough.

She was born in South Portland, Aug. 25, 1926, a daughter of Everett and Jenny (Ross) Bridgham. Muriel grew up in the Pleasantdale area of South Portland and was educated in local schools. She went on to marry Newman T. Blanchard and start a family, having four children.

Family was very important to Muriel and she loved camping and family picnics. Cooking and quilting were other ways Muriel enjoyed spending her time. She traveled to many destinations, having gone on several cruises.

Muriel worked at Unum for 30 years, retiring as a supervisor of customer services and pensions. She was a lifetime member of the Eastern Star and most recently a communicant of the West Scarborough United Methodist Church.

Survivors include sons, Gary A. Blanchard and wife, Karen of New Gloucester, Dale L. Blanchard of Santiago, Chile; son-in-law, Stanley Baker of Casco; 13 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

She is predeceased by her husband, Newman T. Blanchard; daughter, Linda J. Baker; and a son, Joel N. Blanchard.
