PORTLAND — Irene Fisher of Rumford, passed away Jan. 1.

Irene was born in Rumford, Dec. 15, 1926, the daughter of Blandine Fisher Carrier and Leo Carrier. She attended local schools in Rumford.

Irene was a communicant of St. Athanasius-St. John’s Church and a former member of the Ladies of St. Anne and the Chisholm Ski Club.

She was married to Robert Fisher on Aug. 11, 1947. They shared a life together for more than 54 years, until Robert’s passing on March 5, 2002. Irene enjoyed family gatherings, knitting, reading, playing cards and was an avid tennis fan.

Survivors include two sons, Bud Fisher and his wife, Barbara, of Williamstown, Mass., and Greg Fisher, DDS and his wife, Ann, of Portland; two daughters, Diane Fisher Wood and her husband, Doug, of Wells and Linda Fisher Arsenault of Portland; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Arsenault Murphy, Leah and Stacy Arsenault, Woon Chul and Andrea Fisher, Mackenzie Fisher and Emily Wood; and two great-grandchildren, Robert and Kylie Murphy.

Predeceasing Irene was her daughter, Andrea; sisters, Anita Perry and Jeannette White; and a son-in-law, Robert Arsenault.
