NEW YORK (AP) – A two-month old girl was found unconscious in her crib and later pronounced dead, authorities said. Her mother blamed a lack of heat in the Bronx apartment.

Jasmine Morales, 19, told the Daily News for Sunday’s editions that she found Jaylee Logan unconscious at around 9:15 a.m. Saturday. The child was pronounced dead at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital just before 10 a.m., police said.

Morales told the paper that because the apartment was so cold, she wrapped Jaylee in a heavy blanket and feared the child suffocated. The child’s twin brother, in a separate crib, was unharmed.

Further tests needed to be conducted before a cause of death could be determined, Ellen Borakove, spokeswoman for the medical examiner’s office, told The Associated Press on Sunday.

Morales said she had complained about the lack of heat to officials. Millie Molina, a spokeswoman for the city housing authority, told The Associated Press that the matter was under investigation.
