LEWISTON — Bates College made seven of 11 3-pointers in the second half to defeat Hamilton, 59-56, in a NESCAC men’s basketball clash Saturday night.
The Bobcats outscored Hamilton 8-0 over the final two minutes, including back-to-back 3-pointers by Graham Safford and Luke Matarazzo that put them in front to stay at 57-56 with 1:10 remaining.
On Bates’ senior night, senior Ed Bogdanovich tied his season high with a game-high 21 points. Matarazzo added 17 points, hitting 5-of-7 from behind the arc, and adding four assists. Mark Brust had a game- and season-high seven assists, and Mike Boornazian added nine ponits and seven rebonds off the bench for Bates (10-14), which was playing its regular-season finale and awaits the conference tournament starting next weekend
Peter Kazickas led Hamilton (12-11) with 13 points.
Maine 66, Albany 52
ORONO — Mike Allison had nine points, 12 rebounds and four blocks to lead the University of Maine men’s basketball team to a 66-52 win over Albany on Saturday afternoon at Alfond Arena.
The Black Bears (9-15) took a 31-18 halftime lead behind nine points from Alasdair Fraserand six points each from Zarko Valjarevic, Xavier Pollard and Jon McAllian of Bangor.
Edwards finished with 16 points and four steals while Fraser added 11 points and five rebounds. Valjarevic had 13 points and McAllian had 10 points and two steals. Sam Rowley had 19 points, 15 rebounds and four steals for Albany (18-8).
Women’s basketball
Albany 86, Maine 54
ORONO — The Univeristy of Maine dropped an 86-54 decision to visiting Albany in women’s basketball action Saturday.
With the Great Danes (20-3) leading by five with just over 13 minutes remaining in the opening half, the Black Bears (2-21) went on a 10-2 run to take their first lead. Courtney Anderson of Greene started the run by finding Ashleigh Roberts for two. But, Albany ended the first half on a 20-6 run to take a 40-24 lead at the half.
Roberts paced the Maine attack with 20 points and five rebounds, while Liz Wood chipped in eight oints and eight rebounds.
Hamilton 60, Bates 50
LEWISTON — Madie Harlem scored 23 points to propel Hamilton College to a 60-50 victory over the Bates.
Samantha Graber added 15 points and Eliza Howe scored 13 for the Continentals (12-10). Olivia Pimm grabbed 10 rebounds, helping Hamilton to a 45-30 advantage on the boards.
Meredith Kelly led the Bobcats (11-11) with 17 point, while Brianna Hawkins added nine.

BRUNSWICK — Stephanie Ludy scored a pair of goals to lead Bowdoin College to a 3-1 vicotry over Hamilton in women’s ice hockey action Saturday.
Ariana Bourque scored the other goal for the Polar Bears (16-4-2), while Kenzie Novak tallied a pair of assists. Katie Zimmerman scored the only goal of the gamefor the Continentals (11-10-1).
Colby 2, Wesleyan 1
WATERVILLE — Carolyn Fuwa scored her first goal of the season for the eventual game-winning tally as Colby tipped Wesleyan 2-1 in NESCAC women’s hockey action Saturday.
Lauren Guarente scored in the first period to put the Mules (9-12) on the board first.
The Cardinals (6-14) cut the deficit to 2-1 in the second period on Jordan Schildhaus’ power play goal.
Softball
Western Carolina 5, Maine 4
SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Kayla Myers led off the bottom of the sixth with a double down the left field line and scored on Amelia Griffin’s single as Western Carolina took a 5-4 victory over the University of Maine in softball action Saturday.
Kristen Koslosky went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored to lead Maine while EmJ Fogel also added a pair of hits including a double for the Black Bears (1-1) .
Alexis Bogdanovich picked up the loss for Maine in relief.
