AUBURN — The Auburn Public Library will host Gloria Varney of Nezinscot Farm as she shares her book” The Painted Turtle.” The program at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 23 in the Maggie Trafton Program Room is free and open to all.
Nezinscot Farm, located atop a hill overlooking a river in Turner, is home to many cows, goats, sheep, horses, llamas, chickens and donkeys. The farm has been home to several generations of Varneys and is rich in tradition, history and stories. Varney shares this wonder-filled farm with the world in “The Painted Turtle.” The book tells the true tale of the restless ghost of a young man and his painted turtle friend, a talkative llama named Bernice, a border collie named Willy Nelson and their efforts in helping these special spirits finish their journey in life. Whimsically illustrated by Maine artist Mark Durbin, Varney’s retelling of family lore is magical for kids and parents alike.
Varney, together with her husband Gregg, own Nezinscot Farm, the states’ first organic dairy. With the help of their five children and handful of hired hands, the Varneys run a farm and fiber store, a cheese making operation, plus a plethora of other projects. Varney will sell and sign copies of her book at the library.
“The Painted Turtle” is available at the farm and online at www.nezinscotfarm.com
