Elise Syphers, 10, hands Auburn firefighter Mitch Sperry a box of brownies as Syphers’ classmates from Sherwood Heights Elementary School say “thank you” to firefighters of Auburn Engine 2 on Thursday. Twenty-two students from Kris Samson’s fourth-grade classroom walked from the school to the station on South Main Street with cards and treats in hand. “Thank you for saving people’s life almost every day. We all appreciate you risking your lives when there is a fire. Thank you so much. You deserve appreciation,” wrote Emily Maines, 9, on the card she made. Samson’s students made cinnamon Christmas ornaments for residents at Bolster Heights Health Care and have plans to visit the Auburn Police Department as well. “It’s our gift to the community,” Samson said. Firefighters from left are Sperry, Jim Hart and Christian Andreasen.
