MONMOUTH  — In response to farmer interest and needs, a group of agencies have joined forces to develop a comprehensive high tunnel basics workshop to be held Tuesday, March 26, at Highmoor Farm, Route 202.

The workshop will begin with registration at 9 a.m. and end at 3 p.m. In case of a storm requiring a cancellation, the workshop will be held the next day.

Registration fee is $20 a person. The fee will cover coffee break refreshments and handouts. Participants must bring a bag lunch.

The farmer workshop flyer and registration form are available at www.androscogginswcd.org. On the home page, click on the link to “Farmer Workshops” for more information.

The training will address the basics about structures, soil management fertility and irrigation, vegetable and flower production, off-season production and fruit production. It will end with a panel sharing grower experiences.

The Androscoggin Valley Soil and Water Conservation District is partnering with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, University of Maine Cooperative Extension, Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry to conduct the workshop.

In addition to resource specialists from government agencies, local farmers, organizations and business representatives will participate in the sessions. Up to 35 registrations will be accepted. If there is a significant number over the maximum registrants, a second session later in the year will be considered.

Registrations must be received by Tuesday, March 19. Those who have special needs in order to attend should contact Jane Heikkinen at 753-9400, ext 400.
