Welcome to the 2013 Lewiston Auburn Film Festival – four days dedicated to the world of cinema, with healthy doses of music and visual arts along the way.

We’re proud to welcome TV’s “Survivorman” Les Stroud to the festival this year. He’ll be signing books to kick off the festival at the opening night of Prose Gallery, located at 223 Lisbon Street in Lewiston. It’s a great chance to meet this celebrity, snap a picture, get an autograph and enjoy Lewiston’s newest art gallery, featuring a display of Canadian photographer Laura Bombier’s work.

Stroud will be back on Saturday, hosting a Question and Answer at 1:30 p.m. at The Public Theatre to answer all of those questions about the popular “Survivorman” TV show. Later that night brings The Les Stroud Band together for its first-ever Maine show at Ramada Conference Center at 9:30 p.m. It’s a cool mix of Dave Matthews Band, Ray Lamontagne, Neil Young and, of course, features Stroud’s trademark harmonica playing.

But, at the heart of the film festival are the films and Friday night we are honored to host the world premiere of The Peloton Project. Produced by Patrick Dempsey, Laura Davis and Ramsey Tripp – who also directs – this very special world premiere sold out in early March, but a second viewing will be available to LAFF attendees on Sunday afternoon, April 7 at The Community Theatre in Auburn.

You’ll also get the chance to see 75 other films throughout Saturday and Sunday at six downtown Lewiston and Auburn venues. These films are from next door and around the world. Some are debuting for the first time and some have been racking up awards on the international film festival circuit. There’s drama, comedy, romance, documentary, thrillers and everything in between to satisfy any moviegoer’s greatest expectations!

On Saturday, at the Lewiston Public Library, LAFF will introduce its first Student Film Competition starting at 10 a.m. Featuring films from local and regional students, this allows the world to see tomorrow’s filmmakers today. Admission to the student festival and the Les Stroud Q&A on Saturday, along with the Sunday viewing of The Peloton Project, are all part of the two-day movie ticket and do not cost any extra.

If you’re looking to enhance your experience, we’d urge you to consider attending Saturday night’s gala dinner and awards ceremony, bringing the festival’s filmmakers and filmgoers together for a night of recognizing the Best of the Best in a Golden Globes-like atmosphere complete with entertainment.

And if that weren’t enough, we invite you to join us for brunch on Sunday morning at Fish Bones American Grill in Lewiston. Mingle with newly-crowned winners and other filmgoers as the festival kicks off its final day.
