The article headlined “Former NBA star has new job as crossing guard” in the March 20 Sun Journal caught my attention. One more vivid example of wasted tax dollars.

The article stated that the “star” works one hour per day at Eastern Middle School and New Hampshire Elementary School. It is unclear if that is one hour for both or one each. His compensation is stated to be $14,685.50. Using a 180-day school year, that works out to be $81.58 per hour if he works for the two schools at the same time, or $40.79 if he works one hour for each.

To add insult to injury, the “star” states that he doesn’t need the money but took the job for the health care benefits.

Who in the private sector gets that much per hour working one or possibly two hours per day and gets health care benefits as well?

Let’s wake up and stop tax-spending abuse.
