RUMFORD — The pre-performance flyers read, “Are you tired of seeing the same old musicals? The same story line and the same boring slow parts? What if you could see the best of all your favorite musicals in just one musical?”

That might entice some musical fans to trek to Muskie Auditorium at Mountain Valley High School on April 11, 12 or 13 at 7 p.m. to view a performance of “Best of Every Musical.”

Add to the hype that MVHS students scripted the dialog between show-tune numbers and the audience is in for a treat. The production is billed as “hilariously funny.”

MVHS Senior Alex Fage explained, “It’s going to be very interesting because people can see bits and pieces of musicals like a sampler platter. And fans of musicals will get to hear many favorites.”

Fage was the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come in MVHS’s production of “A Christmas Carol.”

Prior to the performances, opening acts will warm up the audience. On Thursday, April 11, Lia Paliocha and her Gifted and Talented students from Rumford Elementary School, Mountain Valley Middle School and Mountain Valley High School will read their original work. The reading will begin at 5 p.m.

MVHS’s first ever improv group, known as Room for Improv-ment, will open on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m.

“A lot of the talent that the town has seen before is featured,” said senior Mariah Haggan. “Also there’s a lot of unknown talent that will debut in the musical. The opening improv group will also be a delight.”

Most recently, Haggan played a charity worker and the Ghost of Christmas Past.

Senior Andrew Phelps, a veteran actor since his sophomore year, explained his reason for continuing to perform. “I love being with other actors, singers and Mrs. Simmons. Learning the new material is fun.”

Phelps appeared as Fred, Scrooge’s nephew.

Natalie Simmons is the director and theater arts teacher.

The cast includes Kristin Arsenault, Kelsey Bevins, Casey Child, Chelsea DeRoehn, Alex Fage, Nate Fitzpatrick, Lexi Fryover, Claudia Gallant, Morgan Gordon, Mariah Haggan, Robyn Pellerin, Andrew Phelps, Ronnie Russell, Kelli Trenoweth, Brittany Wakefield and Alex Witas.

Admission to the performances is by donation. All proceeds will be used for purchasing new stage curtains.
