LEWISTON — Local police have issued a traffic advisory for midmorning through the early afternoon Saturday.

According to Sgt. David Chick, a couple of walking events for charity will be held during the day that are expected to draw several hundred participants. Groups of walkers will be crossing a few of the major streets, including Webster, Sabattus and Central Avenue, and Central Avenue and Russell Street. There will be clusters of pedestrians walking on some of the nearby side streets between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

The participants, according to police, will include people of all ages and physical abilities which may account for a slower pace when walking across the road.

Motorists are asked to use extreme caution, especially at these intersections, and be on the lookout for pedestrians crossing. Police also ask motorists to be patient when encountering these groups.
