LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing is offering several events next week.

The center will offer a free nutrition workshop for cancer patients, survivors and caregivers. A condensed version of the Nutrition for Life series will take place from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, May 4, at the center, 29 Lowell St.

Judy Donnelly, RD, LD, will discuss the key components of the Nutrition for Life core program. Usually a four-part series, the Saturday program will cover a variety of topics on nutrition and cancer prevention, treatment and general wellness. Cooking demonstrations will highlight nutritious foods and preparation techniques.

The center is partnering with the Melanoma Foundation of New England (MFNE) to offer a skin cancer education program for salon professionals. The “Skinny On Skin” will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the center, 29 Lowell St.

The program is free to salon owners and stylists, but reservations must be made in advance at www.mfne.org. MFNE developed the “Skinny On Skin” to educate salon professionals to identify suspicious moles in hard-to-see places on their client’s scalp and neck.

Dr. Carrine Burns, Bates Mill Dermatology, will lead the program. Dr. Burns is a diplomat of the American Board of Dermatology, a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, a Fellow of the American College of Mohs Surgery and a member of Alpha Omega Alpha.

The center has announced a free self-massage workshop for cancer patients, survivors and caregivers from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Monday, May 6. 

Dempsey Center massage therapist Bambi Mathay, LMT, NCTMB, will teach  self-massage techniques to energize people in the morning, or to unwind in the evening.
