LEWISTON — A grand jury on Wednesday indicted a Blake Street man on charges that he stabbed his estranged wife in her driveway last month with the intent to kill her.

Deng Mirac, 42, of 158 Blake St., was indicted on charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault and violating conditions of release. He is accused of attacking Adut Adong, 34, of that address, shortly after midnight April 4.

Adong was examined for her injuries — she was slashed in the face and stabbed in the abdomen, police said — but was not admitted to the hospital. She later told reporters that a thick coat may have saved her life.

According to the indictment, Mirac told his estranged wife, “I’m done for you today,” before stabbing her several times.

Police said Mirac had been arrested in October and charged with domestic assault against Adong. He had been ordered to stay away from her while the charge was pending.

On April 4 a woman called police and said a man had just killed his wife in the driveway next to their home.

Police were told the suspect was last seen running up Blake Street, wearing a suit and carrying a knife. Officers fanned out across the area.

At about 12:30 a.m., an officer reported spotting a man who fit the description of the suspect on Elm Street, near the intersection with Main Street. Several officers responded and Mirac was taken into custody.

Mirac was jailed but has since been released. A warrant has been issued, ordering him to court to answer the charge.
