Yesterday was “Visitation Day” in the Auburn schools, and all through the city and outside the parents were welcomed in large numbers. On account of the bad weather, not so many came as would have had it been pleasant, but the response to the invitation was good, and much appreciation was expressed over the work exhibited. Between two and three hundred people called at Webster Grammar school through the day, and others came in the evening, to see the manual training, sewing, cooking and drawing exhibits. In the Lincoln Grammar School in New Auburn, the manual training work and the domestic science work was arranged in the upper corridor, and it will be allowed to remain over Monday, in order that some who could not come yesterday may see it then.

(Photo caption) This is the tough way to wash a car. Officials at Bates College in Lewiston today were somewhat disturbed to see a car in scenic Lake Andrews, the man-made campus lake. Someone, without doing any damage to flowers and bushes surrounding Lake Andrews, dumped this car into the lake sometime during the night. It apparently was rolled into the shallow water from a gravel path which runs beside the lake.

City Assessor Fern Rodrigue urged residents not to panic if they receive a letter in Tuesday’s mail informing them of a revaluation of their personal property. Though property value has been revalued, total amount of taxes won’t be raised, since there is a new estimated tax rate to adjust for the increase. The process merely readjusts property owners’ share of total taxes.
