Alzheimer group to host breakfast
PORTLAND — The Alzheimer’s Association, Maine Chapter will host the annual Maine Alzheimer’s Champions Breakfast from 7 to 9:30 a.m. Friday, May 31, at the Holiday Inn By the Bay.
WGME CBS 13 news anchor Kim Block will be honored as the 2013 Champion for her leadership and dedication to increasing awareness of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias in Maine.
Tickets for the breakfast are $50 a person and may be purchased by calling 772-0115 or on-line at www.alz.org/maine. Proceeds from the event will be used to further the association’s mission of advancing research, providing care and support for all affected, and reducing the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.
Media women to make cards for troops
DAMARISCOTTA — Maine Media Women will meet to make greeting cards for distribution to U.S. servicemen and women overseas at the meeting on Saturday, June 1.
The meeting, to take place from 9:15 to 11:30 a.m. at the Mobius Center on Business Route 1, is open to anyone who wants to make cards. The regular meeting fees, $3 for members, $5 for nonmembers, will be used to defray the cost of materials.
Member Carol Jaeger will coach the group in how to decorate the cards.
