POLAND — Poland scored four runs in the first inning and those held up in a 4-3 win over Freeport in a WMC regular season finale.Corey Cunliffe had two hits and drove in a run to lead the Knights (9-7). Jake Simard allowed just two Freeport hits.
After four runs in the first, Freeport got single runs in the third, sixth and seventh to trim the deficit.
Falmouth 6, Gray-NG 4
GRAY — Connor Aube singled home a pair of runs in the top of the eighth inning to lead Falmouth to a 6-4 win over Gray-New Gloucester in the teams’ WMC baseball finale Thursday.
Thomas Fortier set up the winning hit with a double, the only extra-base hit for either squad in the game. Will Dagostino earned the win on the mound in relief.
Tyler St. Pierre was the hard-luck loser for the Patriots (5-11), and J.T. Magno pounded out three hits in the defeat.
Nokomis 12, Leavitt 4
TURNER — Chandler Foss had two hits and drove in three runs to lead Nokomis to a 12-4 win over Leavitt in KVAC baseball Thursday.
The Warriors opened a 1-0 lead with seven runs in the second and added two more in the third for an early 10-0 lead.
Shawn Redman scattered six hits to get the win for Nokomis (7-9).
Leavitt got three hits from Levi Morin. Brian Bedard, Tyler Hutchinson and Nate Coombs each drove in runs for the Hornets (5-11).
Spruce Mountain 5, Wiscasset 3
WISCASSET — Lucas Preble smacked a pair of RBI singles with two outs to key the offense as Spruce Mountain edged Wiscasset 5-3 on Thursday to solidify a playoff position.
Peyton Kennison also had a pair of hits for the Phoenix (9-7), who locked down a berth in a preliminary round game with the victory. Kennison also picked up the save in relief of Scottie Hall.
Zack Ellison took the loss on the hill for the Wolverines.
Buckfield 5, OOB 3
BUCKFIELD — Garrett Hamann knocked in three runs — including two with a double in the pivotal fifth inning — to help lead Buckfield to a 5-3 win over Old Orchard Beach in an interleague game Thursday.
Jonah Williams earned the win on the mound for the Bucks (12-1) while striking out 11, and Jeff Pepin also managed a pair of hits.
Matt Parks took the loss for the Seagulls.
Softball
Nokomis 6, Leavitt 0
TURNER — Leavitt pitcher Michelle Morin pitched a solid game and struck out seven hitters before Nokomis pounded away in the eighth inning as the Warriors escaped with a 6-0 win over the Hornets in the season finale for both teams Thursday.
Sierra Fortin and Taylor Lovett each had a pair of hits for the Warriors, and Danielle George slugged a two-run double. Angela Daigle ripped a pair of hits for the Hornets in the loss.
Buckfield 13, OOB 2
BUCKFIELD — The Bucks scored seven runs in the first two innings to build the early lead and finished the regular season off with a 13-2 win over Old Orchard Beach Thursday.
Kelly Charity pitched a two-hitter as the Bucks finished at 6-10. Samantha Zak, Gabrielle Therriault, Hannah Gallant and Alannah Knox each had hits for Buckfield.2
Poland 7, Freeport 0
POLAND — Lindsay Theriault had three hits and Amanda Gibson drove in three runs to lead Poland to a 7-0 win over Freeport in WMC softball Thursday.
Kylie Martin pitched four innings of shutout ball and gave up just three hits. Kolby Woods finished off the game for the Knights (10-6).
Melora Lavoie drove in a pair with a single during a three-run first. Gibson drilled a two-run homer in the fourth to add to the lead.
Boys’ lacrosse
St. Dom’s 10, Mountain Valley 3
RUMFORD — Grant Carrier and Dalton Lorenz each had two goals while Nick Hatfield added six assists to lead St. Dom’s to a 10-3 win over Mountain Valley in boys’ lacrosse. Jon Petrie had two goals for the Falcons while Austin Glover scored a goal and assisted on two others.
The Saints built a 5-1 lead in the first quarter with four straight. The lead was up to 7-2 at the half. Alex Michaud made nine saves in net for the Saints while Coyote Freeman had 10 stops for the Falcons.
