Budget wins approval in SAD 44

BETHEL — The five member towns of SAD 44 approved a proposed $10,371,000 budget Tuesday for school year 2013-14 by an unofficial vote of 299-222.

Only Andover, with a vote of 31-50 voted the budget down. Newry residents tied at 23-23.

The other three towns voted in favor with Bethel approving the figure with a 170-127 vote; Greenwood, 24-6; and Woodstock, 51-16.

The results for continuing with the two-part budget adoption process also won another three years by a total vote of 299-216. Andover voted 46-36 in favor; Woodstock in favor 44-21; Newry tied at 15-15; Greenwood turned it down, 22-23, and Bethel voted 172-121.

Board Chairman Lainey Cross won re-election by taking 254 votes. Carol Everett, a former board member, also won a three-year term with 231 votes. She replaces Lynn Arizzi who did not seek another term. Both women ran unopposed.
