1934 – 2013

LEWISTON — Phyllis Jackson, 79, of Weld, died Tuesday, June 11, at the Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

She was born on Jan. 2, 1934, in Weld, a daughter of, Loren Eric and Vera (Safford) Whitney. She attended local schools, graduating from Weld High School.

On Oct. 31, 1954, she married Clifford Jackson in Carthage. He died on Nov. 15, 2005.

When she worked outside the home, she was employed as a telephone operator and at the Cornwall Wood Mill, both in Weld. She also cleaned camps for summer residents. She worked for many years for the Rand Stowell family, performing housekeeping duties and caring for their children. Family and people in town knew they could call on “Phee” to help with cleaning and wallpapering projects, as well as providing respite care for children or elderly.

She was a member of the Rainbow Girls, Franklin County Extension, American Legion Auxiliary, Weld Congregational Church, the Weld Historical Society and Order of the Eastern Star.
