Untamed New England Returns to Sugarloaf for 2013 Adventure Race
CARRABASSETT VALLEY — Untamed Adventure Racing, known for world class endurance events, returns to Sugarloaf and Carrabassett Valley on June 21-23 to host their two-day multi?sport adventure race combining trail running, mountain biking, orienteering, and more.
The race?course is designed to be accessible to a wider audience of athletes: 24-hours in duration, the race is 3 days shorter than the signature Untamed New England Expedition Race and is less intimidating to novice adventurers. Racers will compete in teams of 2, 3, or 4 people, and must travel together for the duration of the event.
Adding to the adventure, the exact race course itself will not be revealed to competitors until Friday, June 21 – the day before the race begins.
Untamed Adventure is also introducing a 6-hour event to run side-by?side with the 24?hour event. The “Sugarloaf Solo” race will be a gateway to adventure racing without complications like mountain biking or racing through the night. The Sugarloaf Solo race begins at noon on June 22nd and ends 6 hours later, and will be completed entirely on foot in the mountains around Sugarloaf.
“This region has so much to offer,” Untamed Director Grant Killian said. “While our races this year are 24?hours and 6?hours, this Western Maine territory can support weeks of challenging adventures. Our racers are in for stunning scenery and an authentic back?country adventure.”
