DIXFIELD — The RSU 10 board approved a three-year contract with the Town of Rumford’s Parks and Recreation Department for the schools’ sports teams to use Hosmer Recreation Complex.
The current contract expires on June 30. Under the new agreement, the district will pay $1,500 a year. That covers lights and maintenance of the field.
Superintendent Tom Ward said the school system does not have a sufficient number of personnel to maintain the field.
In other matters, the board approved a seven-year contract with the Pepsi Co. In return for supplying the company’s products to Mountain Valley High School’s vending machines, Pepsi has agreed to buy new scoreboards for the high school gymnasium, among other benefits.
Assistant Principal Alan Cayer said the opportunity was a good one for the district. He said replacing the 30-plus-year-old scoreboards would cost about $10,000.
Ward said the contract is a first for the RSU.
In other matters, the board:
* Approved hiring professional staff during the summer by the superintendent.
* Approved a new policy regulating the use of service animals in the school. A student requiring such assistance is expected to attend an RSU 10 school in the fall.
* Appointed Dirigo High School teacher Rachel Buck to the position of building-based site coordinator.
* Appointed interim literacy coach, Mary Buzzard, to the position of full-time literacy coach at Rumford Elementary School.
* Approved a cooperative agreement with the Region 9 School of Applied Technology for MVHS students who attend the vocational school.
