RUMFORD — Selectmen expect to take action on two petitions at their regular meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 20, in Rumford Falls Auditorium.
The Greater Rumford Community Center will present a petition seeking to change a section of the Charter which prevented the Center from petitioning for a revote after their initiated article requests for funding donations from the town were defeated, Town Manager Carlo Puiia said on Wednesday afternoon. The initiated article requests were defeated at the town meeting referendum on June 11.
The other document is political activist group SAVE Rumford’s spending cap petition for tax relief. That petition seeks to cap spending at $6.2 million initially.
It’s been presented to the board in various forms and has been rejected each time by selectmen, who were acting on the advice of town attorney Jennifer Kreckel.
The board will also discuss and possibly approve a contract for animal sheltering services. Other business items include a request from Public Works Superintendent Andy Russell to approve a sewer main lining rehabilitation project, a request from the Fraternal Order of Eagles for a temporary extension of its liquor license, three quitclaim deeds and approval of new budget recommendations for defeated budgetary articles.
Two executive sessions are scheduled: first, an economic development matter with Jim Rinaldo; and second, a personnel matter with the town manager.
