JAY — Selectmen are expected to set permit fees to use consumer fireworks in town as of July 11.
Voters approved a fireworks ordinance on June 11 that requires people to get a fireworks use permit from the Jay Fire Rescue Department.
The board will take up that matter and others at 6 p.m. Monday, June 24, at the Town Office.
A permit needs to be obtained between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. on the day of discharge of the consumer fireworks. No permits will be issued after 6 p.m. Fifty percent of the permit fee will be deposited in an equipment reserve account for the Fire Department.
The remaining 50 percent will be a stipend to the person who issues the permit, Town Manager Ruth Cushman said.
The fire chief or designee will issue a permit if it is found not to create a fire danger to the general public.
The board also will discuss what they want to do about the fuel tanks at the Public Works garage, Cushman said.
Currently, town vehicles that use diesel are filled at the town garage, while those that use gas go to a filling station.
“We know it is only a matter of time before the diesel tanks fail,” she said.
The town used to have a pump for gas at the garage as well.
Highway Foreman John Johnson has developed a proposal to solve the issue and is looking for input from the selectmen on what to do, Cushman said.
A survey on curbside pickup of trash and recyclables will also be discussed during the meeting.
