FARMINGTON — Registrations for Farmington’s fifth annual fishing derby for adults with developmental disabilities are being accepted through Monday, June 24.

Farmington Recreation Department, along with sponsor Coca-Cola Bottling of Farmington, is bringing back this event, which is free of charge.

The derby takes place from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on July 3 at Rollo Pond at the University of Maine at Farmington. Eligible participants will be adults with developmental disabilities who are accompanied by a family member or supervisor from a local support agency.

If more than 36 people are interested, a lottery system will be used to assign who begins fishing at the start of the derby and who will replace anyone who has caught their limit of one rainbow or brook trout.

Those wanting to enter must call the Farmington Recreation Department at 778-3464 by Monday, June 24. Calls may be placed and registration information left on the answering machine, day or night.

Leave the participant’s name, telephone number, town of residence, agency affiliation (if any) and derby assistant’s name.

A department staff member will contact participants after June 24 to confirm registration.

The derby will end once a total of 36 fish are caught or the one hour passes, whichever comes first.
