FRANKFORT, Ind. — Barbara Pulsifer Porter, 89, passed away on Tuesday, June 18, at Wesley Manor, after a long illness.
She was born in North Turner, Dec. 10, 1923, to Carl and Virginia Safford Pulsifer. Barbara spent her childhood in North Turner and graduated from Leavitt Institute in Turner.
On July 4, 1942, she married the Rev. Norman L. Porter in North Turner and moved to their first pastorate in Eliot. They then served churches in Lewiston, Dorchester, Mass., Greenfield, Mass., Wollaston, Mass., and Natick, Mass. In 1963, she began working at New England Life Insurance Co. in the accounting department.
Barbara retired from New England Life Insurance Co. in 1983. She and Norman spent 22 years in Florida, where she enjoyed gardening, collecting dolls and traveling. She greatly enjoyed her summers at their cottage on Bear Pond, with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
For the past six years, Barbara was a resident of Wesley Manor. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and was honored by the Quincy (Mass.) City Council with a key to the city and lifelong membership.
Barbara is survived by her daughters, Winona Porter Adams (Allan) and Elaine Porter Witherbee (Gary); sisters, Phyllis Pulsifer Place and Bertha Pulsifer Goodwin; five grandchildren, Karen Adams Chong (Wei-Li), Michael Edmondson (Katie), Andrea Adams Toone (Matt), Kristin Witherbee Brown (Matt), Jonathan Witherbee (Jen), and 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband of 67 years, Barbara was predeceased by her brother, Win Pulsifer; and her sister, Carolyn Pulsifer Caryl.
