OXFORD — It’s no surprise when the feature winner of a premier division shows great pride after posting a win. But when that winner watches as both his son and daughter finish second and third right behind him, that pride can be difficult to contain.

Timmy Brackett powered around the outside of Chris Coolidge going through turns 1 and 2 on lap 26 and held off a late-race charge from his son TJ as the proud father led a podium sweep in the Almighty Waste Trophy Dash for Pro Late Models Friday evening at Oxford Plains Speedway.

Corey Morgan (Outlaw Sportsmen and Street Stock) and Calvin Rose Jr. (Mini Stock) were also feature winners on a cool yet surprisingly dry night in western Maine.

Once again teams from the Wicked Good Vintage Racing Association joined the program, with Arthur Hannaford winning the overall feature. These classic machines from the past add both visual and audible pleasure to any night of short track racing.

“This is just unbelievable to see these kids up here to sweep the top three,” a somewhat surprised Brackett said in Victory Lane. “TJ has been very fast lately, I didn’t know if I had anything for him to be honest. I’ve got his setup in the chassis. He got it just right because the car was hooked up perfectly. But to have TJ and Vanna run this well tonight, too, that’s about as good as it gets. I couldn’t possibly be any happier.”

Coolidge continued his relentless quest for a Pro Late Model victory, leading five laps and coming home fourth behind the trio of Bracketts. Scott Moore completed the top five with a solid run.

Finishing sixth through 10th was Tommy Ricker, Joe Turner, Donnie Wentworth, Gary Chiasson and Shane Green. Three cautions slowed the pace, each for minor spinouts. What made Vanna‘s run to the podium so incredible was the fact she got spun out twice during the event after leading laps 9 through 19. Now driving a well-prepared car owned by Shawn Knight, she showed her finely-honed skills as she blasted her way back into contention.

The girl can wheel a race car, no arguing that fact in any way, shape or form. With TJ’s mechanical skills and Vanna’s driving ability, it’s no wonder Timmy has such a broad smile.

In earlier feature action, Morgan powered his way around the outside of Troy Jordan on lap 12 and easily pulled away to record his 10th Outlaw Sportsman victory of 2013. The veteran from Lewiston has been dominant since the gates opened back in April, and shows no signs of slowing down as the season begins to wind down.

Matt Dufault saved the best for last, slipping past Jordan for second in the closing laps. Mike Haynes and Todd Bisbee completed the top five.

“I had actually planned to take a week off in this class,” Morgan said, referring to his usual double duty between this class and the Street Stock division. “When I saw the trophies that Almighty Waste had to present, I changed my mind. I thank them for sponsoring this class and am super happy I raced again tonight.”

Rose returned to Victory Lane for the first time since June 9, holding off a hard-charging Justin Larsen for top honors. The savvy veteran from Turner made a strong move to the outside on Shane Kaherl at the start to take command. Once Larsen broke free of traffic, the battle was on.

Larsen settled for a close second after winning seven times this season, while Kaherl was a distant third. Nik Coates and Brandon Palmer rounded out the top five.

“That was a fun race,” Rose said after successfully keeping Larsen at bay. “I knew once Justin got rolling I would have my hands full. Yet the car was as hooked up as it has been all year, so we were able to hold him off. I appreciate the team’s hard work; it sure feels great to win again.”

Morgan bagged his second win of the night thanks to a traffic jam shortly after the Street Stock feature went back to green at lap eight. As cars battled three-wide, Morgan dove to the bottom and snuck past Dan Brown and Ryan Hewins. While Hewins may have been the actual leader at lap nine, Morgan took over just one circuit later and powered on home for top honors.

Tyson Jordan came from deep in the field to finish second, while veteran Matt Williams filled out the podium. Multi-time and defending champion Kurt Hewins drove from 10th to finish fourth, while Ryan Robbins completed the top five.

“Winning two races in one night is something you just don’t hear about, it just doesn’t happen very often,” Morgan said. “This is the second time we’ve done it this season, and it sure feels great. I’m racing at Wiscasset tomorrow so maybe we can make it three wins in one weekend. This has been a great summer for this team.”
