Horse shows in Andover this weekend
ANDOVER — A Night Gymkhana horse show will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3, at the Ellis River Riders showgrounds, 78 Airport Road.
An open show will be held at 9 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 4, in the same location. Both events are free to the public.

‘Animal Adaptations’ in Mexico next week
MEXICO — As part of the Mexico Public Library’s “Terrific Tuesdays” summer programs for kids ages 2-14, the library will host “Animal Adaptations” with The Chewonki Foundation of Maine at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 6, at the town hall.
Children will learn about adaptations, try on fun costumes, and see firsthand how three of live non-releasable animals have adaptations that help them thrive in their specific habitats.
Although the program is free of charge, there will be a donation box available for anyone who would like to contribute to the program. FMI: call the library at 364-3281.
RAAPA Chorus starting Christmas rehearsals
RUMFORD — The RAAPA Chorus will start rehearsals for Christmas shows on Tuesday, Aug. 27. The shows are scheduled Dec. 7 and 8 and rehearsals will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. each Tuesday in the Muskie Auditorium at Mountain Valley High School.
Adult newcomers are welcome and, although there is no audition, previous choral experience is necessary as the music is challenging, especially for lower voices.
In order that adequate music is available for the first rehearsal, the deadline to join the chorus is Monday, Aug. 12.

‘Save the GRCC’ will hold rummage sale
RUMFORD — “Save The GRCC” will have a rummer sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24, at the VIS Meeting House, Route 2.
Organizers are looking for sale items to be donated; no big appliances.
Donations can be dropped off at the Greater Rumford Community Center, 50 Congress St., from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, until Aug. 20
Along with the rummage sale, baked good, fresh garden vegetables and “Save The GRCC” T-shirts will be sold. Ticket to the dinner-dance event scheduled for Friday, Aug. 30, will also be available.
FMI on this and other scheduled fundraising events, or to volunteer, call the GRCC at 369-9906. All proceeds for these events will help fund the GRCC.
Seniors plan Branson bus trip
RUMFORD — The Rumford Senior Center is organizing a fall bus trip to the Branson Show Extravaganza. This is an 11-day, 10-night tour.
The bus leaves from the Rumford Senior Center on Friday, Nov. 15, and returns on Monday, Nov. 25. The cost is $905 per person for double occupancy; $75 is required to reserve a seat and the final payment is due on Sept. 9.
Featured shows are: Cassandre-Voice of an Angel show, George Dyer Show, Buck Trent Show, The Haygoods Show, The Dutton Family Show, The Great American Christmas Show featuring Tony Orlando. Showboat Branson Belle is also part of the tour.
Stops will also be made at the Made in America store, Indianapolis Museum of Art, and the Cleveland Museum of Natural History.

The trip is open to the public; 30 people must register for the trip to proceed.
